Across London and its outskirts, lavender fields are bursting into bloom – some tucked away in city parks, others sprawling across countryside farms, offering the perfect setting for a tranquil walk among the fragrant rows.

But it's not just their colour that draws people in, it's that soothing, herbaceous scent that fills the air. Lavender fields in and near London

1. Mayfield Lavender Farm

Just 15 miles from central London, this 25-acre organic lavender farm, the largest of its kind near the city, offers a truly scenic escape between Banstead and Purley. Stroll through rows of fragrant, pesticide-free lavender in full bloom, and don’t miss the vintage red tractor, Looby Loo train, iconic red phone box, and old sycamore tree – all set within the fields and perfect for photo opportunities.

While picnics aren’t allowed inside the fields, a seating area next to the gift shop and café stand provides space to relax and enjoy food, drinks, and even lavender cream tea. The gift shop features a wide selection of lavender-themed products, including soaps, candles, plants, confections, and both fresh and dried lavender to take home.

2. Kennington Park

Kennington Park in South London features lavender that has been growing for generations, with two varieties bringing bursts of colour and a soothing fragrance beneath Mediterranean-style trees.

The park also supports bee conservation through its partnership with Bee Urban, a local beekeeping and education initiative. Visit the hive near the cafe to learn more about their work.

3. Kew Gardens

Though Kew Gardens doesn't have a dedicated lavender field, its grounds offer vibrant displays. In summer, the Duchess Border, beside the Duke’s Garden wall, bursts with clusters of lavender, adding color and fragrance to this historic space.

4. Vauxhall Park

While Vauxhall Park doesn’t have a full lavender field, it features several neat rows of lavender within the Fawcett Garden, located in the park’s southeast corner. Just a short walk from Vauxhall station, the lavender has been blooming here since 2003, planted to commemorate the centenary of Vauxhall Motors and lovingly maintained by dedicated volunteers.

Each summer, the community harvests the flowers to make lavender oil, sold at South Lambeth Market to fund park upkeep.

Lavender fields within two hours of London

London and its surrounding regions offer a variety of lush lavender fields.welcome visitors in 2025. Each are conveniently located within a two-hour commute from central London, making them perfect for a day trip or a weekend getaway.

5. Hitchin Lavender

Growing lavender has been a cherished tradition in Hitchin since the 1500s. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Hitchin Lavender, a beloved farm that open their doors each June through August. Located in Ickleford, two miles north of Hitchin, the farm spreads across 30 acres of rolling hills, offering visitors a chance to experience lavender fields, wildflower meadows, and sunflower patches. Visitors are welcome to pick their own lavender – rare for a farm of this size.

Beyond the fields, Hitchin Lavender offers a range of amenities to their visitors including the 17th-century Old Barn tearoom serving homemade cakes, hot and cold beverages, and a children's play area. The adjacent farm shop offers a vast selection of lavender-infused products, including essential oils, candles, and lavender gin. 6. Carshalton Lavender

Every July, this not-for-profit community heritage project opens its three-acre lavender field to the public in Stanley Road allotments for one weekend. Visitors are invited to wander amidst rows of fragrant blooms and pick their own lavender which is included in the entry fee. Alongside the field, a selection of stalls offers handcrafted lavender goods, local crafts, plants, and refreshments to enjoy onsite.

This event is a highlight for families and lavender fans, offering a pure and calming celebration of heritage while helping with the harvest and raising community spirit.

7. Finchingfield Lavender

Explore a charming micro lavender farm nestled in the Essex countryside, just an hour from London and close to Chelmsford and Colchester. Afternoon‑tea picnic boxes are available on site or by pre-order, along with deck chairs, sun loungers, hay‐bale sofas, chairs, and picnic blankets dotted throughout the flat meadow (which is fully wheelchair and mobility‑scooter accessible).

Volunteers are encouraged during harvest season and beyond, while those seeking a longer stay can enjoy camping or glamping on the soothing grounds.

To preserve its peaceful ambiance, visitor numbers are capped, and tickets must be booked in advance.

8. Castle Farm

In Shoreham, Kent, Castle Farm is the UK’s largest lavender grower, with over 110 acres. Established in 1998, it offers guided tours that walk you through its growing, harvesting, and oil distillation processes. Tickets can be pre-booked online for the BYO Picnic Events and the Field Walk access.

9. Cotswolds Lavender

These fragrant fields span 45 acres across the rolling Cotswold landscape, with 20 acres open to visitors.

Wander through the neat rows of lush lavender, capturing many photos of the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Enjoy a picnic, explore the wildflower meadows and take on the scenic woodland trail.

The Lavender Cabin sells mementos crafted with essential lavender including products from fragrant oils to delightful treats.

10. Lavender Fields, Hampshire

Set in the Hampshire countryside, southeast of Alton, Lavender Fields based at Hartley Park Farm is bordered by the ancient wood pasture and beech hanger woodlands of Selborne Hanger. The scenic setting provides a peaceful escape from the city.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own blankets or chairs and enjoy a picnic in the dedicated area set within the main field. After soaking in the atmosphere, explore the shop which sells lightly perfumed home and body products made from the farm’s own lavender, distilled on site.

11. Lordington Lavender

Lordington Lavender, founded in 2002 by local farmer Andrew Elms, sits tranquilly in the South Downs. Free from fertilisers and pesticides, this wildlife haven attracts bees and butterflies during its short opening period.

From 16–20 July visitors can soak up the stunning lavender‑filled countryside while enjoying tea and cake. Book mini‑photo sessions with a professional and wind down in hay play and tractor‑and‑trailer rides (while availability lasts). Grown‑ups might prefer sipping Pimms or feasting on fresh strawberries.
